Hey Friends! If you are following me on social media you would know my family has grown by "four feet". That's right, I finally got a puppy. "Jersey" is the sweetest, cutest YorkiePoo pup you will ever meet. If you think I'm lying check my boy out! I TOLD YOU SO...hehehe
Shortly after I welcomed my sweet pup home I couldn't help but reminisce about all the dogs I had or associated with growing up. You guessed it...most of which came from my Dad. He loved dogs and fish. I love a good timeline or outline so enjoy the journey of all the dogs in my life...
Queenie & Snoopy:
My first experience ever with dogs. Queenie was a mixed breed, a pretty yellowish brown complexion and just a wild and friendly as she could be. So much so that she lived outside in the garage and in a custom dog pit in my grandparents backyard. Snoopy was a cute white midsize house dog, we never really knew the breed names. Snoopy was the king. He lived in the house and adored my grandparents the most. He would sleep right under the head of the bed on my Grandma side of the bed. My Grandpa affectionately known as "Papa" would treat Snoopy with his favorite treat, hot dogs and bologna.
Queenie was apart of our family for awhile until she ran away. We never did find her. This was early 90s so dog tracking chips and other high tech resources wasn't available to us. Snoopy lived a very long time, truly a mans bestfriend. My Dad gifted his parents these dogs. They say he bought them and just left them there lol. Either way they were a great part of the family.
Diamond:
A pretty Lab mix, warm brown color wild as the wind. All I remember is this rambunctious puppy who loved to poop behind the couch. My Mom wasn't going for it. If you didn't know I was born and raised in New Jersey we lived in an apartment. Big dog, small apartment it didn't workout. My Dad either found Diamond or got her from the local pound...shortly after she returned to sender.
Roscoe:
My dream dog. The cutest most fluffy brown and black puppy ever. A Saint Bernard. He was so little and perfect. It broke my heart that our new landlord wouldn't allow us to have any dogs. We surrendered ole Roscoe to the Fire Station. Saddest day ever for 10 year old. After that we didn't own anymore dogs. Snoopy was the family dog so he was mine too.
Peaches:
The best dog ever. Peaches was a Rottweiler and she belonged to my Aunt & family. I will never forget my Grandparents, Aunt, Cousins, Brother and I returned one evening from our NC trip visiting family. As we unloaded the car and put it in the house I heard a whimpering noise coming from the kitchen pantry. Everyone was still outside. I looked and it was a blue storage bin lined with blankets and the cutest Rottweiler puppy ever. I picked her up and gave her a big hug. I let my little cousins come in and discover their gift from their Dad.
They all loved her from the start. Peaches hung tough with her brothers. She always wanted to play ball with them. By play I meant bite all the balls. lol I'm sure they replaced dozens. She also like empty 2 liter soda bottles. As she got older she became so protective. If you visited she would bark and growl if you decided to leave her. I remember tricking/bribing her many times to run out the door. My sweet peach forever though. Rest In Doggy Heaven.
This concludes all the pups from my upbringing. My friends have or had dogs that I adored too. I'm just happy to now have my own. Jersey was never intended to be an emotional support pet but he brings us great comfort. I wish my Dad was here to see him. Jersey name is significant to home state, he will always be my piece of home.
Love always,
Alicia G. #DogMom
