Hey Friends!
I absolutely refuse to keep living the same year over and over again. Prayer and faith is crucial for everyday life but real change only comes with DISCIPLINE. Keep reading for my brief progress with the Keto lifestyle and overall life change.
Have you ever been sick and tired of being sick and tired? Chile... shortly after we entered into 2021 I became extremely fed up with any and everything that wasn't serving me happiness. This mainly included ME, MYSELF, & I. I was tired of the HBP medicine, hormonal imbalance, extended menstrual cycles, Limited fashion options, shortness of breath, etc. Every year I tell myself I am going to eat better, get active, stick with it and I'd drop the ball every time. After getting laid off from a position I loved for 3 years I pivoted my desire and decision to lose weight and get healthy. The stressors and depression was not a good feeling but it lit a fire under me that has been out for many years.
“Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard. CHOOSE YOUR HARD.”
I saw the above quote online and made up my mind to go harder ever since.
Keto-ish
I started the Keto diet about a year and half ago and loss about 9 pounds. I was so excited and just knew I would continue doing it. Come to find out I wasn't fully doing Keto...it was more like dirty keto but hey, it was working. I love fruit and bread!!!! It was hard for me to part ways. So I would dabble here and there. What really killed my initial Keto journey was when the Bariatric nurse and physician told me I would not be able to sustain the Keto lifestyle after weight loss surgery. Yes, I was on track to get snipped! Shortly after that I decided to just stop Keto. Not knowing my husband would become very sick and "postpone" my surgery plans altogether.
Keto inspiration
At this point Keto was a thing of the past until my brother started seeing great results on his journey. Listen...if y'all know my Big Brother he wasn't one to diet or carb/calorie count anything. I was very impressed that he even concerned Keto. To date he has loss 80+ pounds (wooo hooo!!!) We would often talk about meal options, keto snacks, net carbs, cheat days, etc. Per usual the oldest sibling influences the younger siblings. I was sold to jump back on the band wagon. My Brother love him a rotisserie chicken, pork rinds, broccoli and baked pork chops with peppers and onions. Sounds yummy right? I know! I highly suggest following social media accounts that promotes the lifestyle you're striving to live too. I follow some really great people on Instagram that gives great advice and recipes. i.e. @CmyKeto, @KetoKesh, @Ketohalfasser, etc.
Strict Keto...Keto Approved
"A keto or ketogenic diet is a low-carb, moderate protein, higher-fat diet that can help you burn fat more effectively. It has many benefits for weight loss, health, and performance, as shown in over 50 studies. A keto diet is especially useful for losing excess body fat, reducing hunger, and improving type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome." -Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, MD
I did not think I could do it initially because I wasn't a label reader or carb counter. But I quickly remembered the changes I was determined to make to have a more healthy year and I became who I needed to be. I cut out all soda, fast food, sugary beverages, SUGAR, bread, pasta, etc. It was all about the protein, vegetables and water for me. Well...actually I still eat fast food occasionally but I order the Keto approved way. Example: 1 Baconator, no ketchup, no bun, add mayo and mustard with a side salad no croutons. I don't eat out often but I'm more confident when I do. Keto works if you work it.
Daily I am eating better and adding exercise. This is huge for me. My bestfriend stays on my case about walking... as annoying as it can be its paying off now. Don't tell him I said that tho lol. I have been walking a half mile in my neighborhood and another half mile at a nearby track. On days like today when its too cold and raining I find low impact full body workouts to try on YouTube and jump rope in my garage. I never knew I could feel better doing this until I made the choice to just do it and LIVE.
I started this disciplined journey on January 25, 2021 and I have lost 21 pounds and counting. I am here to encourage you to not live the same unhealthy year over and over again, If I can do it you can too! I hope to be writing another blog soon many more pounds lighter...
Love and Light,
