Fat girls...I have been on that team for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I sat down to make this list that I realized our lives can be full of accommodations and judgments. It doesn't stop anything just thought I'd give you some insight.
Dear"Fat Girls",
you're not alone...
I have never been a “Woe it’s me” kind of person but Fat girls, BBW, Plus Size women go through in ways some will never understand. It ranges in severity but it can be some of the simplest things. Listed below are just some “Fat Girl” experiences:
“BBW= Big Beautiful Woman...
Being a Fat girl be like...
1. True to size… What is that? Most affordable clothes are sized wrong. Some 3X are made to fit like 1X. It is bad enough the most fashionable pieces are not in our size anyway.
2. All ankle strap shoes are a NO. #CankleGang -_-
3. Know your fabrics. Some are unforgiving and will cut off your circulation. Others will put your rolls on display.
4. Undergarments are crucial. Save your coin because they are expensive for our size…like most quality clothes or mainstream brands.
5. Wide feet? Whew…good luck with finding heels. Its like a maze trying to find the simplest pair. Cheap shoes have larger sizes but not the width. Let us just be honest mainstream store pumps are often dated. I am fat not a Grandma.
6. Online shopping. Sigh…Reviews are our saving grace! Always look for a review picture of someone close to your size. It helps, otherwise cross your fingers for a great fit.
7. Chub rub…painful especially when those jeans start shredding between your legs.
8. Bracelets, necklaces, watches all need extenders…good luck finding an XL apple watch band too -__-… I’ve used ribbons as a necklace extension. Don’t knock it until you try it!
9. “Hello Flight attendant, may I have a seatbelt extension please?” …I still be flying though, hmph!
10. Amusement parks/State Fairs you must know we are just there for the exercise (so much walking…) and the food. We cannot fit on majority of the rides and its okay.
11. Restaurant booths… (que spooky music) These can be a nightmare sometimes, but we can fit in most. Amen for the adjustable booths. Scoot that table up a lil bit and you will be fine.
12. Travel…it should be mandatory for the seat next to you to be empty. Some travelers are rude because we spill over a bit. I will never forget my very 1st train ride to Jacksonville, Fl. My seat mate kept asking me to move over…at this point I was going to jump out the window. There was no more space to move. He was frustrated and it showed. He sat at the bar for the remainder of the trip. Oh well!
13. Public transportation…most people will skip sitting next to the big girl…some do not care. I must admit if there are other seats available skip me anytime lol.
14. You smell good for a “Big Girl” …
15. You dress well for YOUR size…
16. Your face is pretty…
17. You are pretty for a Big Girl…
18. That time of the month…we must wear two menstrual pads at a time to alleviate leaks…costly I know but it’s a must. Long cracks matter! lol
19. Dating: We can talk but I’m not looking for nothing right now…says all the fine guys who want to keep his Fat girl a secret.
20. Secret dates/meet ups… aht aht!
21. Big Girl of the group is always last pick…why do we always have to be the “take one for the team friend”?
22. Accept your abnormal breathing…everybody will adjust.
23. Fat doesn’t always equal unhealthy.
24. Fat people work out too…
25. We are Fat & Fabulous…know that!
As fabulous and confident as my mother raised me to be for the listed and many other reasons, I desire a better healthier life. I have managed, but I don’t want to anymore. My 20s were supposed to be epic. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the energy for it to be all it could have been. I will never apologize for how I look or how much I weigh but I will make changes as I see fit. My weight is the common denominator for most of my health and personal issues, so I’ve decided to do something about it. Even if I don't I'm enough and so are you!
This list is not even the half. Have you experienced anything like this? Be sure to share in the comments.
Fat but don’t forget FINE,
Alicia G.
