Hey Friends!
The world is opening up faster and faster since vaccines became available. I can't say I'm mad about it but I will still use caution. How are you feeling about it? …oh ok that's nice! ;-) I am excited about the many opportunities to enjoy family and friends at home and OUTSIDE. I celebrated my birthday the end of April and that was my first public event in almost a whole year. It was sooooo epic, my kind of vibe totally. Beautiful Black and Brown professionals enjoying a local Black owned food truck, Live band, and choice beverages of thee adult kind. The name of the event is "Sunday Supper Live" its a monthly event that launched on my birthday. I'm making plans to attend as many as I can. Check out my new Events tab on my website as I will begin posting local and other Events. Follow SSL on social media too!
I am definitely outside, OUTSIDE. As mental health awareness month ended yesterday I realized routine "changes of scenery" is crucial for my self-care and overall mental health. It's a level of peace I need more than I use to like to admit. I am a social worker by trade and passion so problem solving, trauma, and bearing burdens not of my own are the norm. I know my boundaries but even on my best day it can be much. Changes of scenery includes but not limited to date nights, weekend road trips, staycations, day trips, brunch with friends, etc. My nieces are my pride and joy. It has been a challenging year for them learning virtually and in person but they still made "Principals List". Proud is an understatement. I planned a mini beach trip but the weather was crappy Memorial Day weekend. That didn't stop anything though. We had a cookout, visited a local aquatic center, and had a staycation by the airport. Pool fun all weekend. Of course we added in a little retail therapy, I wouldn't be Auntie Leesh if I didn't buy my babies something. I am intentional about making memories...
There is a lot of chatter amongst peers, family,... everybody as to what you should do about being out and about again. Listen to YOURSELF. Do what makes you happy and whole. I believe we are all able bodied and minded to take as many precautions as we need as we see fit. Do not let the opinions of others discourage you, EVER. Be safe, have fun, and live life to the fullest. "Millions didn't make it but you're one of the ones who did"...LIVE like never before!
WE OUTSIDE, period!
I hope to see you around,
Alicia G.
